The history behind Casa Ticul
Casa Ticul takes its name from the nostalgia of the Cuevas Bustillos family, Señor Yoyo and Señora Fala, a couple who lived and raised their four children in Ticul, Yucatan a town of artisans and simple folk. Many stories and memories are those which my grandparents created in our actual emotions, maybe some of these tales came purely from Yoyo’s great imagination, perhaps others he told time and time again playing down what actually happened.. I don’t know and I don’t want to find out. He was an amazing man; caring, crazy, clever and a great story teller, which was a blessing for a child like me.
Fala was a traditional woman simply filling the surroundings, her gifts, and her love with her admirable energy.
The photographs which decorate the hotel are of this family, this unique couple and the girl who grew up side by side with three boys, her brothers; my mother.
This is a story like many family tales, but which affects me deeply, maybe because I am an indisputable part of it.
The walls of this hotel speak of mountains, gum trees, affection, Yucatecan poetry and song, love.... all of this is our background, like the scenery of our family movie.
So we offer a very Mexican welcome, our home is your home, if you wish it to be.
